On September 28, Pudong News, a news program produced by Shanghai Pudong Television, aired a feature report on Shanghai Watson Rally Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. ("Watson Rally"), focusing on the company's in-house development and commercialization of fully dry electromechanical braking (EMB) technology.

Watson Rally is among the early companies in China to pursue the independent development and commercialization of fully dry EMB. Headquartered in Pudong, Shanghai, with its R&D center also located there, the company continues to invest in core chassis braking technologies and engineering validation, advancing EMB from technology development toward real-world applications.

Fully dry EMB uses an electric motor to directly actuate the braking mechanism, eliminating conventional hydraulic lines. It enables millisecond-level response and independent, precise control at each wheel, making it an important technology pathway for brake-by-wire systems and a key technology considered to support the deployment of Level 3 and above automated driving. According to test data cited in the report, compared with conventional hydraulic braking systems, Watson Rally's fully dry EMB delivers a 40% improvement in response speed, reduces emergency braking distance by 2 meters, and adds 10 kilometers of driving range.

The technology has already entered mass production and delivery for autonomous logistics vehicles, and Watson Rally has secured production program nominations from leading OEMs. The company has also completed its third consecutive winter vehicle-level validation program for EMB and continues to advance product development and vehicle validation for passenger vehicles. Under the current development plan, Watson Rally expects to achieve mass production of EMB for passenger vehicles in 2027.

Watson Rally Pinghu Manufacturing Base or EMB Production Line

Leveraging Pudong's industrial ecosystem and talent resources, Watson Rally continues to increase investment in core technology R&D while strengthening its capabilities across R&D, validation, manufacturing, and mass production delivery. The company also operates a manufacturing base in Pinghu, Zhejiang, supporting the mass production of wheel-end hydraulic braking systems, including EPB and front calipers, in coordination with its Shanghai R&D operations.

From Pudong, Watson Rally is focused on advancing core braking technologies in response to the automotive industry's shift toward electrification and intelligent mobility. The company will continue accelerating the commercialization of its R&D achievements, strengthening its R&D, manufacturing, and delivery capabilities, and working toward its vision of becoming a worldwide trustworthy chassis system supplier.
